DISTANCE LEARNING THROUGH THE PANDEMIC: FINLAND’S PRESIDENT PAYS TRIBUTE
Allgemein | 7. Apr 2021 10:46
Schools in Finland broke up for the summer holiday at the start of June. Alongside the traditional end of term festivities, students and teachers were treated to a special video message from Finnish president Sauli Niinistö.
In his greeting, the president notes that the past academic year has not been an easy one, with students and teachers at all levels of the education system having to get used to new situations.
” Learning and teaching in a time of restrictions and distance learning have necessitated great efforts from every one of you,” the president notes.
“Although we do not yet know what the next school year may bring, we are confident that we will be able to get through this challenge too”, he continues.
President Niinistö thanks students for supporting one another through the year. “The knowledge you have gained, and the skills you have learned will serve you well throughout your life,” he says, before going on to pay tribute to teachers and other staff members, who “deserve great thanks for the fact that, even in these times, it is possible to get high quality education and training in Finland.”
It has been a hard year for both teachers and students in Finland, with the Covid pandemic bringing frequent changes to teaching arrangements and long periods of distance learning for some. It is heartening to hear the President acknowledge the efforts that all have made to get through this strange time. Students and teachers head off for their summer holidays confident that they can cope with whatever the next academic year may bring.
